Senior Whole Life Carbon Advisor (5615)

Are you looking to join a team and company on a mission to decarbonise the built environment and transform the construction industry as we know it?

The Opportunity

Join Laing O'Rourke's Carbon Solutions team as a Senior Whole Life Carbon Advisor – a growing team within Laing O'Rourke's Sustainability function. Our team of specialist carbon advisors play a critical role delivering carbon reductions through the measurement and management of embodied and operational carbon emissions on our projects. As part of this role, you will be interacting with multi-disciplinary design and construction teams covering multiple projects across our key sectors with a real opportunity to influence project outcomes.

This is a national role that involves regular visits to project offices and sites, offering flexibility to work from one of our offices in Sale, Dartford, Worksop, St Neots, or Oldbury, as well as remotely. With projects located across the country, your location will influence the project portfolio you'll support. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Guide project teams to meet contract requirements, framework agreements, and planning conditions for carbon measurement, management, reporting, and reduction.
  • Support project Technical Leads in implementing processes aligned with the RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment Standard (2nd Edition) and PAS 2080: 2023 for effective carbon management.
  • Collect, process, and critically analyse large data sets to identify performance trends.
  • Develop and refine company templates and multi-disciplinary guidance for carbon reduction and reporting.
  • Contribute to project case studies on whole life carbon measurement/management to support work winning activities.
  • Develop and deliver carbon literacy training for all staff levels and support upskilling across project teams.
  • Engage with factory teams to gather data and estimate carbon impacts for structural and MEP products, aiding in the development of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and TM65 calculations.
  • Present whole life carbon assessment results to clients and Project Leaders while contributing ideas to drive decarbonization throughout the project value chain.

About you:
We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds who are passionate about sustainability, carbon reduction, and climate change resilience. While experience in carbon measurement and management is desired, we encourage interest from those with transferable skills gained in multi-disciplinary design or construction teams.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and driving change in the construction industry.
  • Have a technical or scientific degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
  • Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to process and interpret complex data.
  • Show excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities, with the confidence to influence and guide diverse teams.
