Senior Environment Advisor (5517)

Are you passionate about environmental sustainability in construction and experienced in supporting project delivery to stringent environmental requirements? This is your chance join a forward-thinking company and sustainability function who are committed to driving change and innovation in the industry!

Your initial project: Join a high-profile scheme for the Ministry of Justice in Lancashire as Senior Environmental Advisor. This exciting role offers the chance to apply and enhance your experience in managing a diverse range of environmental matters from pre-construction through to delivery. Reporting to the Environment Manager, you will join the project team based out of our regional office in Sale, before moving to site near Preston during delivery.

Responsibilities include;

  • Support the project team and supply chain to ensure project delivery is in line with contractual, client and EMS requirements (inc. sustainability assessments such as BREEAM; responsible sourcing; managing environmental risk and pollution; managing biodiversity including dealing with protected species; biodiversity net gain; energy and carbon reduction).
  • Identify environmental risks and opportunities at both pre-construction and delivery stages, engaging project, design and delivery teams to manage them effectively.
  • Obtain necessary environmental consents by liaising with relevant statutory and consenting bodies e.g. Environment Agency, Natural England and Local Authorities.
  • Drive environmental awareness and engage the workforce through the delivery of training and advice.
  • Develop and maintain Construction Environmental and Energy Management Plans (to ISO14001 and ISO50001 standards), ensuring all risks and opportunities are addressed with appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance to project leads and the client and conduct regular site inspections.
  • Ensure environmental emergency arrangements are implemented, tested, and managed effectively.
  • Report, investigate, and take corrective actions on any environmental incidents and non-conformance.
  • Promote and drive environmental initiatives aligned with our sustainability strategy, including carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and nature protection.
  • Actively contribute to pushing the boundaries of sustainability and help us achieve our goal of becoming a net-zero company.

About You:

This role is best suited to a passionate, collaborative and influential environment champion within the construction industry. Whilst previous experience within an equivalent role is preferred, candidates with high personal drive and the desire to step into a Senior position will also be considered.

Applicants should be degree-qualified in a relevant field, such as Environmental Management/Sciences, Sustainability, or a construction related discipline. Professional body membership (e.g., IEMA, IES, or CIEEM) is desirable. Technical familiarity with environmental processes and assessments, and compliance management systems is required. Given the biodiversity elements of the project, experience or understanding of ecology is also a plus.

Security clearances (BPSS and EL1) will be required for this position.

As the project is located in a rural area, a valid driver's licence and vehicle access are necessary. Additionally, candidates should be prepared to travel regionally and support various teams and projects beyond this role.
