We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Project Management Practice Lead (Job Grade 6) to be based out of our Dartford office.

What will the role involve?

The purpose of this role is to inspire & lead a team that continues a step change in project management capability for Laing O'Rourke through:

Project management/leadership is a critical capability to enable delivery of project initiatives to ensure business outcomes can be achieved, through orchestration of people, process, technology and data in a seamless manner, depending upon the type of project solution being delivered. 

With an average Capex profile of circa £12m pa, strong project management is critical to lead business & technology teams through the project process, to ensure agreed commitments can be delivered.

Key Accountabilities

  • Direct & lead Laing O'Rourke's Project delivery method practices and procedures, along with appropriate strategies, policies, frameworks and governance processes, and embedding into the team's ways of working.
  • Direct & lead the IT Project management team in Laing O'Rourke's Europe hub to deliver outstanding project management across the projects in the portfolio
  • Line manage the IT Project management team, including performance and compliance to Laing O'Rourke's working practices.
  • Influence peer roles (Programme leaders, Design leads, Architecture leads) on Project delivery making, while retaining ultimate accountability for successful delivery
  • Work alongside the Business sponsors to ensure successful delivery of business benefits through the use of best practice project management capability
  • Be the advocate of a Product centric approach and enablement methodologies
  • Develop active management of relationship with key stakeholders to enable IT to be seen as a ‘trusted partner' and the default go-to delivery capability within LOR

Education & Experience

  • Previous experience of setting up and driving the Project management team in a similar or equivalent environment to Laing O'Rourke
  • Significant experience of IT Project management/delivery leadership using differing delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, DevOps) in a complex environment, leading different delivery teams from build to buy.
  • Preferably 10+ years' experience of project delivery leadership in a complex multi-site environment with relevant qualifications
  • Significant experienced in project management techniques, ideally with formal accreditation by industry bodies or certifications i.e., APM, MSP
