Industrial Relations Advisor (5341)

Our Industrial Relations team is preparing for the future, introducing a newly created Industrial Relations Advisor position – a development opportunity and exciting career path to become a Specialist in the field.   

Working as part of the People team and under the guidance of the Head of Industrial Relations, the Industrial Relations Advisor will be responsible for the management of Industrial Relations across our blue-collar operations teams nationwide. So, what does this entail?  

  • Stakeholder Management: Cultivate strong relationships with clients, trade unions and government bodies.  
  • Advise and Report: Provide industrial relations management support to project teams. Conduct research and analyse data when preparing and presenting reports on trends, performance metrics and strategic opportunities.  
  • Compliance Auditing: Evaluate and complete compliance audits during pre-construction and project delivery (direct and supply chain) against IR policy requirements.   
  • Risk Assessments: Carry out project and business sectoral IR risk assessments to provide evaluation and early warning of industrial/employee unrest.  
  • Policy Development: implement, and update industrial relations policies to align with business objectives, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, mitigating risk and driving best practice.  
  • Negotiation: Facilitate negotiations and mediate between management and trade unions/ employee representatives to resolve disputes and achieve consensus on collective bargaining agreements.  
  • Conflict Resolution and Dispute Management: Collaborate with People Leads, Legal Counsel and other stakeholders to navigate complex issues, prevent their escalation and develop strategies and solutions for resolution. 
  • Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams to create a supportive and inclusive work environment that fosters employee engagement and wellbeing.  
  • Mobility: This is a national role, requiring the willingness and flexibility to travel extensively across the UK. Proximity to the M6 corridor would be ideal for ease of travel North and South, but we will consider applications nationally if you're open to travel.  

About You: 

This is a development opportunitywe're not looking for the finished article. You'll have the ambition and passion to learn and progress your career, demonstrating resilience and character to successfully build and manage relationships.   

Experience/knowledge of construction, industrial relations, human resources, or a trade union workplace is beneficial, but not required.  A related degree e.g. in Industrial Relations, Human Resources or Law and/or training in conflict resolution/mediation techniques would be held in high regard.
