Your Initial Project: Laing O'Rourke has signed a contract to deliver new facilities for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) at Alexander Barracks in Pirbright, Surrey. Reporting to an existing Lead Estimator, you will price packages of work up to £100m for multiple build assets e.g. accommodation, offices, training facilities. To begin, you will join the team in Dartford and likely move to site when things start to mobilise in the new year.
Key Deliverables and Accountabilities
- Take overall responsibility for estimating function on less complex bids
- Preparation of prime cost estimates (we use Candy)
- Detailed comparison of subcontractors quotations
- Implement core process/internal governance throughout the tender process
- Client and external consultant liaison
- Completion of fully considered tenders at settlement stage
- Advise on finalisation matters of risk, qualification and margin
- Successful post tender negotiations
- Training and support for less-experienced team members
About You:
- Proven track record of pricing build projects over £20m with well-rounded experience from pre-tender submission through to award/handover to delivery team
- Higher level qualification in relevant discipline e.g. Civil Engineering / Construction Management / Quantity Surveying with progression towards professional body membership (RICS, CIOB, ICE, IMechE) preferred
- Electronic measuring experience
- Previous site experience outside of estimating in either an Engineering or Commercial role would be held in high regard
- Ability to obtain BPSS clearance
- Prepared to be geographically mobile to suit tender workload
