Are you ready to take the lead on ensuring industry-leading environmental sustainability performance on a major infrastructure project? We are seeking a talented Environmental Sustainability professional to join our growing team. This is a perfect opportunity to continue developing your career in this important field.

Working in partnership with HS2, Laing O'Rourke is responsible for the final design, construction and commissioning of the new HS2 Interchange Station.  The new HS2 station, to be built near Solihull and the NEC in the West Midlands, has become the first railway station globally to achieve the BREEAM ‘Outstanding' certification.

Key Deliverables

  • Support the business in driving our ambitions to push the boundaries of sustainability, helping us to achieve our goal to be a net zero company delivering nature positive solutions with teams that represent our diverse society
  • Promote the environmental initiatives aligned with our sustainability strategy such as carbon reduction, waste minimisation and the protection and enhancement of nature
  • Build trusting collaborative relationships with project delivery teams, clients and stakeholders and fully understand the client context and deliver against their needs
  • Take the lead; communicate goals and in a clear consistent manner which inspires and enthuses; set and uphold high standards; provides absolute clarity of outcomes and empower and trust people to deliver
  • Implement the LOR Energy and Environmental Management System
  • Manage the environmental risks, deliverables and requirements, involving our design team and delivery teams by appropriately identifying risk mitigation and continual review of control measures in place
  • Develop and deliver environmental training
  • Manage comprehensive environmental data reporting requirements upstream and downstream. Set KPIs that drive continual improvement and monitor performance of the project.
  • Report and investigate environmental incidents and non-conformances, followed by working with the project leadership team to embed effective corrective actions
  • Provide technical advice to project design and delivery teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks and ensure most suitable practices are adopted

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Experience working on large infrastructure projects
  • High level of personal drive and commitment, with effective goal setting ability
  • Positive approach to the challenges of change, help others to become receptive and responsive to change
  • A deep understanding of environmental legislation and requirements, the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO50001 and Management Systems
  • Logical and well organised with the ability to prioritise
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to build and maintain good working relationships
  • Experience in engaging with consent granting bodies and effectively managing relationships to ensure the timely approval of consents

 

Qualifications

- Hold a degree in an appropriate environment or sustainability discipline

- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience  

- Full membership of either IEMA, or alternative suitable membership (IES, CIEEM etc)
