The opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke has a requirement for an Assistant Business Development Specialist to join our in-house specialist stone contractor, Vetter UK.
For over 150 years Vetter has been the name behind some of the most prestigious landmark projects across the UK, including Heathrow T5 and T2, Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, Manchester Town Hall and Central Library, and Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds.
What will the role look like?
- Actively engage and communicate with our Clients and Consultants to obtain detailed project info and confirm their awareness of our business interests in new opportunities.
- Manage new CRM database Salesforce.
- Develop Opportunity Development Plans for new work providing detailed project knowledge as an outline business case for us to bid and win.
- Attend/represent Vetter at external business/technical meetings in support of the above.
- Represent Vetter at external functions, PR events, exhibitions, trade shows, launches.
- Liaise with other work-winning functions (planning, estimating, purchasing, design management, contract management etc) to assist with/or manage bid process.
- Liaise closely with Proposals and others in developing and completing Pre-Qualifications, Presentations, Bids, Post-Bid follow-ups.
- Report writing.
- Organise and support PR and corporate entertaining events.
- Seek out horizon opportunities from many sources including Compete4, Barbour ABI as well as register our interests on these platforms as well as follow up on reaching out to connect.
- Ensure website is updated and contains current information as well as manage our social media messaging on LinkedIn.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Excellent communication skills, including telephone enquiries and written information.
- Good time management and planning skills, including the ability to work to(meet)deadlines.
- Recognise the need for (limited) out of hours working, including occasional overnight stays (attendance at Trade exhibitions, launches).
- Innovative approach to problem solving.
- Architectural background/specialist stone knowledge desirable but not essential.
- Strong IT skills (additional training will be provided as necessary) for presentations, report writing, proposals preparation etc.
- Commitment to WIN and support principles of both the local business and the wider The Power of One business objectives.
- Flexibility of approach, and self-organisational skills.
- Self-motivation to improve performance and accept increased responsibility.
- Enthusiasm and the ability to work as part of a winning team.
